Photography Off the Scale / 2021
Edited by Jussi Parikka and Tomáš Dvořák
How can we think about data visualisation on a planetary scale? In the context of the climate crises, modelling the Earth has to be isolated from the traditional understanding of data-led imagery. Instead we can conceptualise the planetary surface as a composition of material traces that can be re-read from a human perspective. These arrangements can accordingly be called planetary diagrams.
The chapter contribution is part of the PhD research of Paul Heinicker and was co-written with philosopher Lukáš Likavčan.
